Push Notifications let you send banner notifications to Contacts who have downloaded your personalized Cardtapp app! This is a great way to remind people about your tools, updates, and even sales events happening with your business.
Setting Up Your Push Notifications
Setting up your Push Notifications in the Cardtapp desktop dashboard is simple. Follow these steps:
Log in to your Cardtapp account, then go to the left sidebar and click on "Push Notifications".
In the top-right corner of your push notification screen, you'll find a "+" icon to add your push notification event.
You will choose the recipients for your push notification. Options include sending to all Contacts, manually selecting specific Contacts, or using user tags.
Note: Use the "Tags" feature on your desktop dashboard to assign consistent tags, making it easier to categorize contacts into groups. You can view and modify a contact's tags by selecting any contact from the main "Contacts" screen. Need more help with tags? Click here.
When you're ready to compose your message, enter it into the "Message" box. Use the "Insert Field" option to add variables (such as the Contact's first name) to personalize your message for each recipient.
At the bottom of the page, you choose what occurs when a Contact clicks your push notification. If you select "App Page," you'll then choose from the screens you've set up in your personalized app.
If you choose "Website Link," pressing the push notification will automatically direct the Contact to the specified URL website.
Next, you'll be asked to review and approve your push notification.
Once completed, you can return to the Push Notifications page to view the status of each notification.
In your personalized app, Contacts will be prompted to enable Push Notifications for your event alerts. Encourage your users to allow push notifications so they can enjoy all the features you provide!
Here's an example of a finished Push Notification shown in the Cardtapp desktop dashboard.
Recommended structure for optimal results
Provide a brief, clear title.
Keep the message body to a single focused call to action.
When including a web link, ensure it directs to a mobile-friendly webpage.
If using an app link, connect to the most relevant screen within the app related to your message and avoid generic home screens.
These are ideal for reminders, updates, or next steps.
Sending a Push Notification to an app page
Best used for:
Actions.
Updates.
Links to calculators, rates, or other tools.
Follow-ups based on previous actions in the app.
By choosing "App Page", a Contact who taps the push notification will be directed to a specific page within your personalized app. Select the desired screen from the dropdown menu to specify where the Contact should be navigated.
The dropdown displays all screens that your Contacts can see in your personalized app.
Note: To see which screens are currently accessible for navigation, review your personalized app or visit "App Content" in your desktop dashboard. Then, choose the screen you want your Contact to be directed to when they tap on your push notification.
For example, if your consulting business offers a 10% discount for webinars, your app link should direct users to your "Webinars" screen or the page where your scheduling link is located.
Sending a Push Notification with a website link
Best used for:
Promotions.
New content.
Announcements.
By choosing "Website Link", a Contact who taps the push notification will be directed to a specific website URL.
Note: Make sure the website URL starts with 'https://' and points to the correct site. For optimal performance, choose a website that is mobile-friendly.
For example, if your shop has new products, provide the URL to your shop page featuring your new items.
How users opt in or out of push notifications
When registering with the app, Contacts will be prompted to accept push notifications. Contacts should hit "allow". If they do not allow push notifications, they will not receive any push notifications sent through your personalized Cardtapp app.
If a Contact does not allow push notifications, they will be prompted again after 30 days within the personalized app. Otherwise, Contacts can manually toggle their notifications on or off in the app settings within their personal device.
Frequency for sending Push Notifications and best practices
The frequency of push notifications for your business should be based on their relevance, urgency, and value. Excessive notifications can lead to more users uninstalling your personalized app and cause harm to your relationships.
For best results, adjust your notification frequency based on feedback and user engagement.
Tips for frequency:
Send targeted messages to specific groups.
Limit notifications to 2-3 per week.
Avoid sending notifications outside regular business hours.
Tips for content:
Lead with value; make every notification useful on its own.
Be concise and action-oriented to add urgency.
Avoid sales-heavy language.
